265 Notre Dame Avenue
Canadian General Electric Company
General Electric was founded in 1892 through the merger of the Thomson-Houston Electric Company and the Edison General Electric Company. Canadian operations started at the same time, with the company locating in Winnipeg in 1893.
Canadian General Electric occupied 265 Notre Dame in 1931 to support Winnipeg’s growing need for commercial and residential electrical equipment. The building housed office, warehouse and retail, and they operated out of this location until 1954.
