Royal Bank of Canada

The Royal Bank of Canada was founded in Halifax in 1864 as the Merchants Bank, offering short-term loans to businesses trading out of the international port. In 1925, the Royal Bank of Canada purchased the Union Bank tower and annex located at 500 and 504 Main Street. They operated out of that location until 1974 when the building was sold.
